Circles San Diego is a chapter of Circles USA, a national nonprofit dedicated to ending poverty, transforming individual lives, and fostering thriving communities. Position Overview

A Circle is made up of a Circle Leader (individual or family moving out of poverty) and 2 Circle Allies (volunteers) who come alongside the Circle Leader to support them in achieving their goals. The Circles Coach serves as a dedicated leader within the Circles community, providing essential support to Circle Leaders (Participants), Allies, and volunteers. They help to equip Circle Leaders with the tools and guidance necessary to identify and achieve their goals, while also addressing any barriers hindering their progress. They provide accountability, guidance, and support to Circle Leaders, helping them to cultivate positive habits, navigate challenges, and ultimately thrive. The Coach uses their experience working with diverse socioeconomic communities, a deep knowledge of poverty, skills in community organizing and volunteer management, and an awareness of social service resources to strengthen the Circles community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in social work, psychology, counseling or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.
  • Experience working or volunteering in a nonprofit organization, social services, or outreach.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Proficient active listening and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Empathy, compassion, and the ability to relate authentically and effectively with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of community resources, social systems, and public benefits programs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining a flexible schedule.
  • Proficient in computer applications and data management systems.
  • Understanding of ethical practices and confidentiality guidelines in person-centered services.

Key Responsibilities


COACHING AND ENGAGEMENT


  • Promote a supportive, inclusive, positive culture within the Circles community so all Circle Leaders, Allies, and other volunteers feel supported.
  • Cultivate strong, trusting, and supportive relationships with Participants, nurturing an environment characterized by respect, accountability, and confidentiality.
  • Maintain open and honest communication within the Circles community and work to mediate issues and resolve conflict when needed.
  • Responsible for comprehensive assessments of Participants' needs, goals, strengths, and challenges.
  • Work with Participants to develop personalized action plans based on their needs and goals to lay a robust foundation for success.
  • Provide personalized coaching and accountability meetings with Circle Leaders, employing a strengthsbased approach to effectively guide and support them in achieving their goals.
  • Support Participants in recognizing and utilizing their strengths, skills, and resources to effectively overcome challenges and attain lasting results.
  • Offer encouragement and reinforce the significance of building social capital, helping Participants build resilience and navigate challenges.

ADVOCACY AND COLLABORATION


  • Cultivate relationships with community organizations, government agencies, and service providers to enhance service coordination and promote person-centered care.
  • Participate in conferences and meetings to discuss Participant progress, explore solutions, and identify systemic barriers.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to effectively coordinate, collaborate, and advocate for Participants' needs.
  • Research current community resources, services, and programs that meet clients' needs. This includes staying up-to-date on eligibility criteria, application processes, and financial assistance options.
  • Assist Participants in accessing and navigating essential social services, including healthcare, housing, employment opportunities, educational resources, and legal assistance.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT AND DATA MANAGEMENT


  • Automate processes whenever possible. Ensure that information is documented, organized, and managed well from an administrative standpoint.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records, in compliance with privacy regulations and organizational standards, of Participant interactions, setbacks, progress towards goals, and outcomes.
  • Regularly prepare reports on Participant progress, outcomes, and program effectiveness.
  • Enhance program effectiveness through valuable feedback and insights derived from participant interactions.
  • Report regularly to the Executive Director and complete additional tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.
